Prince’s Chambers is pleased to be participating in the joint CIArb (the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators), Hong Kong Maritime Arbitration Group (HKMAG) and Hong Kong Maritime Law Association (HKMLA) Mock Arbitration & Mediation event, to be held on 19 November 2026 as part of Hong Kong Maritime Week. Prince’s Chambers members Cyrus Lee and Suhail Bindra will appear as counsel for the charterers opposite representatives from leading law firms and organisations within Hong Kong’s maritime and dispute resolution sectors.
The programme will examine a maritime dispute concerning the question “Subject to approval”: was a charterparty ever concluded?” Attendees will have the opportunity to observe how the dispute may be addressed through both arbitration and mediation, offering practical insight into two commonly used mechanisms for resolving commercial and shipping disputes. The mock arbitration will consider a challenge by charterers to the tribunal’s jurisdiction and will be heard by a distinguished tribunal comprising experienced arbitration practitioners. The event will also feature a mock mediation based on the same underlying dispute, highlighting how parties may seek to resolve issues while jurisdictional questions remain in contention.
The session will conclude with closing remarks from Edward Alder, Vice President of HKMAG, reflecting on the themes arising from the arbitration and mediation exercises and the continuing importance of effective dispute resolution mechanisms within the maritime sector.
Hong Kong remains one of the world’s leading centres for maritime dispute resolution, and events such as this play an important role in promoting understanding of both arbitration and mediation among practitioners, industry participants and those with an interest in shipping disputes.
Prince’s Chambers is delighted to support this initiative and looks forward to engaging with colleagues and participants during Hong Kong Maritime Week 2026.
