Edward Alder had the great privilege of being invited to address the 18th International Maritime Seminar for Judges as a guest of the Federal Government’s Nigerian Shippers Council.

Edward spoke alongside Justice Olayinka Faji (Federal Court High Court) and Justice Shuaibu (Presiding Justice of the Court of Appeal) in the session ‘Aligning Nigerian Maritime Dispute Resolution with Global Practice: Arbitration, Courts and the Future of Hybrid Justice’. The session was moderated by the President of the Court of Appeal. Edward presented on how the Hong Kong Courts are delivering “Hybrid Justice” in their staunch support of arbitration in the areas of stays, ASIs, interim measures and challenges to awards and the roles of HKIAC and HKMAG.

The conference was well attended by the Chief Justices of Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Gambia, Kenya and Liberia and many other regional Judges and officials with around 250 practising lawyers.

Edward’s maritime practice includes arbitrations as counsel and arbitrator, High Court commercial trials, injunctions, asset freezing and arbitration-related applications, jurisdictional challenges and ship arrests.
